The Parable of the Sower

Epping Upland, as a church school, seeks to be a community where pupils feel that they belong. In being a safe, secure, happy and nurturing environment, we aim to reflect the love of God in our relationships, attitudes, standards, teachings and way of life.

The parable of the sower fits with the ethos of Epping Upland and its focus on being a nurturing and caring environment. The school seeks to provide the best soil to enable the children to flourish, to make the best choices and to be good citizens. 

We aim to mirror the value God places upon on each individual and recognise that every child is their own unique being and needs nurturing as such. We believe that all pupils are entitled to equal regard and opportunity in their learning and the experiences offered.

We seek to thread our Christian Values of Perseverance, Trust, Responsibility and Compassion through everything we do and everything we seek to achieve.

We accept our responsibility to provide excellence within a broad, balanced, stimulating and relevant curriculum that seeks to develop the potential of every child, giving them every opportunity to achieve their potential and be the best that they can be. We seek
to educate our children emotionally, morally, spiritually and socially, as well as academically and aim to empower our children so that they believe in who they are and consider themselves as valued and important.

We aim to develop a love of learning and positive, enquiring minds in order that our children can be independent learners who have the confidence and belief to succeed in the challenges of the twenty first century.

British Values

At Epping Upland, we uphold, teach and promote fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Through our culture and ethos, our SEAL programmes, the teaching of SMSC and through general curriculum delivery as appropriate, we aim to:

• Enable pupils to develop their self-knowledge, self- esteem and self- confidence;
• Enable pupils to distinguish right from wrong and respect the civil and criminal law of England;
• Encourage pupils to accept responsibility for their behaviour by making appropriate choices, show initiative and to understand how they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in the locality of the school and to wider society;
• Enable pupils to acquire a broad general knowledge of and respect for public institutions and services in England;
• Encourage and advocate tolerance and harmony between different cultural traditions by developing knowledge, respect and understanding for pupils about their own culture and those of others;
• Encourage respect for other people;
• Encourage respect for democracy and support for participation in democratic processes, including the basis on which the law is made and applied in England.

Democracy

• We listen to all views

Rule of Law

• We ensure that rules, boundaries and expectations are clear
• We know what is right and wrong
• We know that rules are in place to protect us
• We show respect for rules and regulation

British Liberty

• We accept responsibility for our own behaviour
• We challenge bias and stereo type
• We have an anti- bullying environment
• We have self- knowledge, self- confidence and self-esteem
• We model freedom of speech in a peaceful and respectful way

Respect and Tolerance

• We are respectful
• We respect the views, opinions of our own and others’ cultures, beliefs and faiths
• We respect, are knowledgeable about and show no prejudice in accepting ethnicity, disability, gender and family if different from our own
