Our History
For centuries, education was run by the Church. Long before a formal building existed, the local priest taught children in the church porch. In 1825, the first official Anglican school was established in Epping Green, and by 1862, a dedicated school building was built to hold about 63 students.
The original school was located at the corner of Carter’s Lane and the High Road. It was a small, simple place with only two rooms and very basic facilities (including outdoor bucket toilets). In 1940, the school was reorganised to focus only on younger children (infants and juniors).
To celebrate the Festival of Britain, plans were made in 1950 to build a brand-new school and the school moved to its current location in Carter’s Lane in 1953. The school was granted "Controlled" status, cementing its partnership between the Church of England and the local government.
